Program of the year

OUR CURRICULUM

Our educational program is divided into 10 thematic units (see below). Each theme includes a range of topics whichpreschool children education should cover.

We put special emphasis on natural development of children's potential in all areas. We enhance children's creativity and other important qualities such as tolerance, empathy, and drive to help others. An important part of our curriculum is getting children school ready, which means developing children's fine motor skills, their understanding of logical categories and further extending their English language skills. This year we are introducing a school readiness program in the Czech language, which is offered as an afternoon club every Monday.

Every theme is divided into subcategories, which are linked to specific extra activities such as walks and trips related to a specific topic or visiting cultural institutions including museums, libraries, theaters etc.

All classes are conducted in the English language.

September

Welcome Back to School

We enjoyed a nice warm summer and now it is time to go back to school. For some of the children it is their very first day here. It is such a big step for these new little students. It is time to get familiar with our surroundings and feel comfortable in a new environment. The children will get to know their class teachers and their classmates. In September it is time to start keeping our daily regime and rules. We will also learn how to stay safe at school and outside. The children that have already been attending Bumble Bee will do a little review of what they have learned. In September we have prepared lots of nice projects to help the children feel relaxed. Come and join us because our adventure has just started!

October

Me and My Family

Across the world there are different families, each with their own customs and traditions. This month we will share with our friends information about “Me and My family”. We will also discover the place where we live. Who belongs to my family? What is the name of the place in which I live? Why do we need friends and why should we treat other people nicely? The children will learn the value of friendship and tolerate differences in others.

October is full of colours. It is a good time to talk about autumn and make nice autumn decorations. The children will go for walks and explore colourful autumn nature.

November

Time Never Stops

Everything around us changes every minute! Living things never stay the same! Because we live in a world where everything is constantly changing. In November we will learn about each season and its signs. After day comes night and after night there is a new day again. We can do so many things from morning to evening and we also like to keep our daily regime. The world of people changes too. This month we will learn about human life stages. We are born, then we grow up and prepare for our vocation. This is another great topic we are going to talk about. What is my parents job and why did they choose it? What would I like to be when I grow up?...maybe a doctor or an astronaut? :-) The children will visit a fire station with lots of fire trucks and brave fire men! We cannot wait to start exploring the changing world!

December

Christmas is Coming!

People, especially children, get very excited about Christmas! It is a wonderful time where people share their love with others by giving presents. If we would like to know why people started celebrating Christmas we would have go back to the past, right to Bethlehem. The children will get to know about the history of Christmas. In December we will create a special christmas atmosphere by making lots of decorations and celebrating many christmas traditions. The children will also make nice presents for their parents. Every year we prepare a breathtaking christmas singing with creative christmas workshops to which you are warmly welcomed!

January

The Wonderful World of Stories

Welcome to the world of stories where fantasy has no limits. The stories we hear as children shape our view of the world. Reading stories to children can show them eye-opening situations to expand and enrich their world. It can also be a great way of helping them deal with real life situations that they experience.

In January we will read plenty of stories with different characters. We will also talk about books – how do we treat them, who is the author and illustrator of the story? How do people make books now and how did they do it in past? The children will also make their own story. We will try to be actors and dramatize our favourite stories.

February

Body and Soul in Harmony

In February we have prepared a huge topic about our body. There are so many things to learn about how our body works. Did you know a few facts about the incredible machine called “OUR BODY”? The brain uses over a quarter of the oxygen used by the human body. Your heart around 100000 times a day, 36500000 times a year and over a billion times if you live beyond 30. As well as having unique fingerprints, humans also have unique tongue prints. The left side of your body is controlled by the right side of your brain while the right side of your body is controlled by the left side of your brain.

Our body and its function does not compete! This month we will learn about our emotions and how to listen to our body to feel good. Also stretching and exercise is important to keep ourselves strong and healthy!

March

Welcome Spring!

In March nature is awakening! Spring is the season of new beginnings. Fresh buds bloom and animals awaken and the earth seems to come to life again. Farmers and gardeners plant their seeds, and temperatures slowly rise. Animals that spent the winter in hibernation come out of their burrows, while those that traveled to warmer regions return. Many animals give birth in the spring. This month we will observe the life cycles of plants and animals. The children will plant some seeds and they will watch them grow. In spring we are ready to stay outside a lot and explore how everything grows in nature. We shouldn't forget to mention that we will have a week of Ecology and the children will learn how to be conscientious towards nature.

April

Explore the Universe/ Down on the Farm

This month our children will get on board their fantasy space ships and they will travel to space. There are so many things to see. The children will learn about the Solar System and our planet Earth. We are getting to know the light, its colours and how it works. Everyone will become a scientist and explore static electricity, magnetism and other interesting experiments. We will try to solve many mathematical quizzes during our Bumble bee Brain week. In April we will celebrate Easter and its Czech and English customs. Every year the children are very excited about our Easter egg hunt!

Our little Bumble bees from Yellow and Red classes will also learn more about farm and ZOO animals.

All about Transportation

Many hundreds years ago people traveled mostly by walking or by riding animals, such as donkeys, horses or camels. In our modern society we can travel much faster. Today, people can travel all over the world in a few hours or days. Modern transportation has changed how people work and live. People can live in one place, but work with people in another country. There are some fun facts about transportation: One of the oldest type of transportation is by a boat. Flying is one of the most popular ways to reach faraway destinations. Over half a million people are in the air at any one time.

This month we will learn about transportation in our city and around the world. We will also focus on safety on the road.

June

What I Have Learnt.../ We are going to the ZOO

We had such a busy year and have experienced so many adventures. In June we will do a review of the knowledge we have acquired during the school year. People are getting ready for their holiday and it is a good time to talk about different countries and their cultures. The children will also learn about the sea world and its treasure. Our little children will learn about different animals that live around the world. In June we are going to have a special occasion. It will be our garden party where we all meet together and enjoy a special time! You are warmly welcomed!
